I've designed & illustrated a book, apparel, events, & for social media.
08 / 2019 - 07 / 2021
As the main designer on these projects, I had full creative freedom to explore and experiment with various design styles. These were the very first design projects I'd done, and I hold them close to my heart — after all, these projects are what kickstarted my career in design.

ABOUT
CONJURING MOUNTAINS
In 2001, NUS Mountaineering (Make It Real) launched its very first student-led expedition alongside the Singapore Xixabangma team. Several years later, it put the first born-and-bred Singaporean on the summit of Everest, and several of its members also went on to form the Singaporean Women’s Everest Team. Every year since, the club has continued bearing witness to more youths passing through our gates and pushing the boundaries of what may be possible across peaks all over the world.
Conjuring Mountains is MIR's story, where we relive our heydays and celebrate the unsung heroes and defining moments that have made this journey more than what any of us could have imagined. This is a story for everyone who has walked through its doors, the avid climber, the curious adventure-seeker and the soon-to-be-inspired.

DESIGN
As part of the authoring team, I volunteered to design the book cover, some illustrations, and plan and execute the marketing strategy for Conjuring Mountains.
Above, the book cover ↑ was designed with the idea of Singaporean students dreaming of the mountains. To many, the idea of mountaineers being born in a country with no mountains seems preposterous, and so it is precisely with this spirit that the cover was conceptualised. During trainings and planning sessions while preparing for an expedition to the mountains, it is not uncommon for us to try to imagine what the mountains we intend to climb look like, and while at home, the closest reality we have to these mountains are the faint silhouettes of the clouds gracing the sky.
The illustration above ↑ is a map of all the mountains the people featured in our book have climbed.
I also did up some graphics for the book's publicity material. These have been used for our internal communications within the club, as well as for our social media publicity. Check out our Instagram page by clicking on the phones →.
NUSummiteers
Graphic Design & Digital Illustration
ABOUT
NUSummiteers is a virtual race organised by the NUS Mountaineering Club in which participants clocked elevation through activities, and hence digitally scaled mountains. Over the course of a week in September 2020, participants hiked, ran and climbed, pushing their boundaries to scale 'mountains' in low-lying Singapore.

DESIGN
BRIEF

As designer, I was to conceptualise the themes and graphics to be used for the event t-shirt and publicity collaterals.
The organising team kindly allowed me free reign over designing, with the only requirements be that mountains be a central focus of the graphics.
I wanted the majesty and the beauty of the mountains to be front-and-centre in the event. Ideally, the challenge would spark a curiosity within the participants to explore the great outdoors, and perhaps one day, even scale a real mountain.
Hence, my graphics and designs for both the event t-shirt and marketing collaterals were intended to convey a spirit of challenge to the participants, for them to step out of their comfort zone.

Social Media & Marketing
NUS Mountaineering Club

Here is a collection of graphics that I designed for the
NUS Mountaineering Club
(Make It Real) for their 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

These were used for the club's social media & outreach platforms.

Doing up the marketing plan & designing collaterals for NUS Mountaineering is the year-long project that I hold closest to my heart - after all, this was what got me interested in a career in design.
